12 Days::Let It Be...

Mary

The icicles are melting and our oldest is due home for the holidays on a flight that arrives tonight. We're settling in and settling down. This is the first year in a long time that I've sensed an abiding peace during the season of Advent. Thanks so much for being with me on the journey! You all amaze me with your wit and wisdom and I'm grateful that you stop by here each day.

Today marks day eight of our journey to 12 Days of Holiday Peace. To read from the beginning, start with this post.

Let It Be...

The story of Mary has always amazed me. Historians say Mary was just a teenager when she found out she would be the mother of God. Hearing news like that would surely have thrown me for a loop...and yes, that's putting it mildly. But this young teen-aged woman - after asking a few appropriate questions - replied to the angel, "Let it be..."

Wow! I'm guessing that Mary was a woman who knew about peace. The kind of peace that hunkers down deep in the spaces where no answers live. I think she knew what she could handle on her own, and what she needed to just. let. go.

Sometimes I forget that about my own life. I try to fix it, or control it, or make it work. But the truth is that some things I need to release. With Christmas just five days away, we may discover that we've come to the end of ourselves. How about you? Sugar. Flour. Butter. Tape. Resources. Energy. Creativity. Patience. Enthusiasm. Does it sometimes threaten to undo you? For today, let's take a cue from Mary and let it be. Release it for now. Sometimes time and space are all something (or someone) needs to work itself out...

Let it be...so very wise. Actually, if it had been me instead of Mary, my first thought wouldn't have been "Let it be" but "Are you nuts?"

I just finished the book Same Kind of Different As Me and I am taken so much from having read it. For one, when God speaks, listen. Sometimes listening means to sit still because even in the quiet of the night, He will speak.

Look for people unlikely that he will place in my life with not only words of wisdom but even a smile or a song.

Thank you for the reminder of "Let it be". Enjoy having your babies home with you all.

I must admit that today has been VERY hard for me! I have not been at peace.

Thanks for the reminder to let it be...give time and space...breath! ;-)

I remember the excitement I had when returning home from college for the holidays! Enjoy your time with your children! I know they're looking forward to this time with you!!!

Peace!

As mother of God, we,too, can turn to Mary as our mother! I love Mary, so much and what a wonderful example her "yes" to God was! May we always answer YES when God calls us!

God Bless you all!

PS..I am loving your Madonna and child!

I often think about what a special young woman she was, "let it be"... she was so brave!! I love those words! I think I need to make myself a big sign that says Let It Be. I often could use that reminder, probably too often! ;)

Thank you for fresh insight on those familiar words. Excellent!

p.s. Glad your peace initiative has paid off for you. I'm sure it has for many who are following you!

I am doing pretty good with the 'let it be' on a daily basis. What I really need to do more of is your last post which is 'unplug'!

This is definitely a word for me Deidra. Just today - a slight misunderstanding - and I want to talk it to death! I am forever trying to control the things and people around me. I so need to learn to just let it be, because that will mean He is in control.
Thank you for all these wise, wonderful lessons.

We only think we’ve come “to the end of ourselves.” The strength and ability to continue is always there – we just have to remember the source of that strength.

The "Let it Be" part is so NOT easy for me. It seems the opposite of my very being! Thank you so much for these great lessons and reminders.

Let it be...yes! There is such a sense of peace when we stop trying to make our lives and allow our lives to "be"...and the amazing things that come to us when we do.

Hope your daughter made it home safely! ♥

About This Blog

I had this childlike faith for such a long time. It was good for tests in school, eating brussel sprouts, and getting my Daddy to give me a quarter when the ice cream truck came through.

But that faith didn't grow up until one dark night in an ugly place when I found myself at the end of myself and I didn't have anyplace to turn but to Jesus and He said, "I have loved you with an everlasting love..."

And I believed Him.
